Mens Preview: The Vietnam Swans vs Malaysian Warriors

180521 Swans Mens vs Malaysia 2018 05 AFL Penang-2301Need we say more: last year was an epic game that resulted in a draw!

Penang was the perfect venue for both teams to get away. With home field advantage this time, can the Swans men do their part to win the Cup by knocking off one of the stronger teams of the AFL Asia league?

The Swans have been pumped up and training hard in the lead up to the ANZAC Friendship Match in two weeks. Despite the welcome interruptions of a certain Hall of Famer’s wedding last weekend, we’ve still kept solid numbers on the training track in both the north and the south.

The Swans have also been fortunate to add some young guys to our squad in 2019. Tal has been looking dangerous at training and will be joined by his northern RMIT comrade Caleb. Young Cooper Rowe and Will Sullivan are also anticipated to make their debut. Will these new players tip the balance in our favour?

Many of the Warriors played in the Phuket Masters only a few weeks ago. While the Warriors were dominant, some doubts exist if they have youngsters to be added to their Masters lineup from Phuket. With a tournament victory already under the belt, have we already seen the high point of the Warriors 2019 season??

#AFLW Preview: Lady Swans vs Malaysian Warrior Women

With the first game of the season only days away, the excitement is building amongst the Lady Swans. One thing is for certain: it’s also going to be an absolute cracker of a game!

Both teams have a lot to live up to: the Lady Swans as the inaugural 2018 AFLW Asia Champions, and the Malaysian Warrior Women, who are out for revenge after after being beaten on their home ground at the Champs!

Both teams have been in pre-season training for a few months and should be in top health as the 2019 season gets under way. Amongst the very happy familiar faces from last season, the Lady Swans are also happy to welcome many new faces to the team!

Our Vietnamese players are going from strength to strength. The recruitment of 3 new girls this year means it’s exciting times ahead to see the growth and development of the game among the Vietnamese community. With the guidance and knowledge from Trang, plus our little superstars Linh and Lucy, our new recruits are in good hands.

The Kiwi crew have been smashing it on field in the pre-season with the return of winning goal kicker Lu, Bex and one of our newest ferns, Beth. All are pumped for the opening game!

The Aussie girls are also psyched up after watching the Crows take out the AFLW Grand Final on the weekend. The Aussie girls Chia, Katie, Laurey, Larissa, Claire, Cindy and our newbie from Brisbane, Rachael are all keen to get their hands on the ball this weekend.

Unfortunately, the Lady Swans did have to say their goodbyes to a few players after our last season as they went on to spread their wings and leave the nest. However, our Filipino princess Alex is flying fit along with Naomi, who has big boots to fill from last year’s captain Nona.

Saturday is an early game, so hopefully the heat doesn’t reach its peak before the final whistle is blown. As the saying goes ‘the early bird catches the worm’: get down to RMIT Saturday the 6th for a fun day filled with footy with family and friends.
