Get on down to RMIT in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City where the Swans will host an intraclub exhibition match for the Australian Federal Police and all Swans supporters and friends.

The AFP will be visiting RMIT to have an introductory session to learn the rules and basic techniques of Aussie rules football between 12 and 2PM, and will be able to put their feet up when the Swans hit the pitch at 2PM for the ultimate prize: bragging rights over their teammates.

The Swans inbox was flooded with more match preview requests from our baby-faced midfielder Roy Horgan, so the committee forced him to take a sick day off work to write up this excellent preview of this Saturday’s match:

Rampaging Roy (QLD)’s State of Origin Preview

State Verse State, mate verse mate!

While the meatheads in Australia are enjoying the rugby league State of Origin and the AFL far too lame to bring it back for Aussie Rules, we’ve gone ahead and made our own better version in Saigon. This Saturday sees the East coast versus the rest with VIC, QLD, TAS and NSW combining to take on the other irrelevant states (SA, WA) with the internationals and Vietnamese players being spread out across both teams. Should be a cracking game and the perfect warm up heading towards the Malaysia game next month. Both sides have more than a few handy players and here are some to watch out for this weekend at RMIT.

Bart Schneemann (NSW)

The beanpole running machine has done exceptionally well to resist the lure of rugby league having grown up in Canberra Raiders heartland but it should come as no surprise that the far superior Aussie rules footy has Bart hooked as it’s perfectly suited to his amazing endurance, good leap and strong hands over head.

Trent's recent yoga and martial arts regime should see him get a bit closer on his opposition than in this photo!

Trent Davies (SA)

The South Aussies have done everything in their power to have Trenta play for another state but alas he bleeds (whatever colour South Australia are) through and through. With (extremely) limited training Trent always seems to be able to have an impact and no doubt he’ll be putting his head over the ball and going hard once again at RMIT this weekend.

Barnaby Morgan (TAS)

The lone Tasmanian in the Swannies team will be looking to make his two headed Tasmanian brethren proud as he suits up for the East Coast this Saturday. I’m still surprised that Tasmania was teamed up with far superior and awesome states such as Queensland and Victoria but no doubt come Saturday Barney will show that he belongs on the gun team.

Dejected Swannie of the Year Luke Turner after the loss to the Eagles

Luke Turner (UK)’s face after getting to Melbourne for a work trip and realising how much a beer costs…

Luke Turner (Prisoner Of Mother England – POME)

Representing the strong section of international players this Saturday Lukey should be inspired after returning from a stint in Oz where he got to witness a real game of football (not soccer) and was shocked to see blokes getting smashed and not rolling around on the ground crying like babies. Lukey will be looking to take what he witnessed in Melbourne and use it to lead the international contingent.

Evan Koch (QLD)

Thank goodness this bloke’s dad is an absolute legend and got him into Aussie rules as a youngster otherwise the only time he’d be leaping at the ball would be in a line-out whilst being wedgied from behind by some short, bald, fat, plodder. Evan is one of a handful hailing from the strongly represented Queensland and should run amok this Saturday.

Tuan's used to being tackled in the midfield but generally gets the ball moving in the right direction. Which team will pick him up for this Saturday?

Tuan Nhan (The United too many States of America)

Hailing from ‘Murica with their 50 states, State of Origin must seem like a crazy concept to a seppo. But no doubt the newly expectant father to be will once again wear his heart on his sleeve and bring some true State of Origin passion to this affair. State of O is famous for its big hits and intensity and I reckon we’re guaranteed to see some of this from Tuan.

It all starts this Saturday at RMIT!

Make sure you don’t miss the intense action – all starting from 2PM at RMIT, Nguyen Van Linh in D7.  Meat pies and beers will be available after the match, with the losing team having to grab beers for the winners as punishment.  The Swans will be having their final pre-Origin training session tonight (Wednesday) from 7PM at the Australian International School in District 2.
