At Kev McMillan’s funeral in Canberra today, Swannie, Dan Kindness represented the Club. For those of us who weren’t able to attend, Dan describes for us what happened.
The service was completely packed with many people having to stand and many others not able to fit into the auditorium. A testament to Kev’s popularity and that he will be dearly missed. There was a great number of Veterans and service personnel in attendance, and an even larger McMillan clan, as Kev has 12 children and an army of grandchildren.
The service itself was a very sad and touching one with some deeply moving eulogies by Kev’s brother John, and wife My Linh. Kevin would have been extremely proud of his son, David, who gave the most heartfelt and respectful speech I’ve ever heard. By the time David finished, there was not a dry eye in the place and he very thoughtfully made mention that the Vietnam Swans had instituted the McMillan Dinner in Kevin’s honour and respect.
While it was a truly sad day, the McMillan clan did a great job of celebrating Kevin’s life. He will be missed but always remembered.
