John Eddy, President of the Jakarta Bintangs, emailed the Vietnam Swans yesterday officially accepting an invitation for the Bintangs to play in the 2013 ANZAC Friendship Match.
The ANZAC Friendship Match will be played at the Vung Tau Greyhound Racing Track, formerly the Lord Mayor’s Oval, on Saturday 27 April 2013.
Usually, the Jakarta Bintangs travel to Balikpapan, Borneo, each year to play the Borneo Bears on the ANZAC Weekend. But not next year.
The Vietnam Swans National President, Phil Johns said that the Club was delighted that the Jakarta Bintangs had accepted the invitation. Johns said,
“The Jakarta Bintangs are one of Asian footy’s founding clubs. They have a long and proud tradition and boast a very strong list. Next year’s ANZAC Friendship Match is going to be an extremely tough encounter that will be played in the spirit of the occasion.
“Next year, the dignity of the event will again be matched by the skills, courage and endeavour of the players which will further define the ANZAC Friendship Match as an iconic event.”
The McMillan Dinner will be held after the ANZAC Friendship Match. The keynote speaker for the Middleton Address will be confirmed closer to the event.
