Tony Woods is the AFL’s International Development Manager. In a memo dated 22 March to Asian footy clubs, he describes some exciting news about AFLTV.
Following the recent announcement of the new partnership with Rightster and AFLTV, please see information attached offering International Affiliates and fans of AFL an opportunity to watch all matches during the 2013 Toyota AFL Premiership Season through AFLTV (afltv.afl.com.au).
AFLTV is the only product that allows you to watch every minute of every game, from anywhere in the world (excluding Australia). In 2013, 225 games will be available live or on demand via your desktop, tablet and mobile. Every fan is different so there are a variety of options; you can sign up for a week, a month or for the entire season.
Along with having great access to AFL matches, we have also worked with AFLTV to provide the following additional benefits:
- For the first time International Affiliates will be able to promote their major events during breaks, this will occur during either quarter time, half time or three quarter time in AFL matches via AFLTV. Events listed will be the major events as provided by affiliates. (Please note that AFLTV will have some discretion in which events are posted.)
- AFL International regional affiliate logos and links to websites will be placed on the AFLTV home page.
- Competitions to drive new subscriptions will be run throughout the year allowing affiliates to win prizes including 2 tickets to the AFL Grand Final and Sherrin footballs.
- AFLTV will allow viewers to watch AFL highlights, learn about the game and view a variety of football related shows from the home page free of charge.
- A limited number of free passes will be made available to each Affiliate for shared use by Board members and/or key staff – instructions to be provided next week.
Despite presenting a strong business case we were unable to secure a revenue share arrangement with Rightster in year 1.
It therefore becomes critical that AFLTV subscriptions through International Affiliate channels are strong to ensure we can move towards a revenue share arrangement in the future.
It will also continue to build the case for increasing international investment in the future.
