The AFL Masters look set to return to Vietnam in 2013.

Neil King, General Manager of the AFL Masters has written to the Vietnam Swans proposing a second tour of Vietnam.

The AFL Masters toured to Saigon on 1 June, last year. They were captained by ex Brisbane Bears star, Richard Champion and their Chairman of Selectors was none other than Melbourne FC legend (and a Melbourne Team of the Century player), Hassa Mann. On that occasion, the Swannies were victorious against the visitors winning 6. 8. 44 to 4.10.34 in the mid week match.

Neil King, General Manager of the AFL Masters has written that:

“We are doing some preplanning regarding a proposed Asian Tour in May/June next year.

“Initially we would like to start in Saigon with a game against the Swannies on (say) 25th or 26th May 2013. The players who participated in the 2011 tour loved Vietnam and would like to return. I think they would also like to even the score with the Swannies.

“We hope to then go on to play a game against the Hong Kong Dragons in Hong Kong mid-week and then finish with a game against the Thai Tigers the following weekend.”

The Swannies have enthusiastically recommended 25 May 2013 and Neil has expressed his confidence that this date will be locked in. So we eagerly watch this space.

How good will 2013 be when we celebrate 50 years?? 40 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Australia and Vietnam – plus 10 years since the establishment of the Swannies back in 2003. Oooooh…..!!
