The AFL Preseason Comp starts tonight – and the Swannies will be there in both Hanoi and Saigon.
The AFL’s website says that the format of the 2011 NAB Cup competition “has drastically changed from seasons past.”
With the new Gold Coast and Greater Western Sydney clubs being added to the competition, there will be 18 teams which will be divided into six groups of three.
Each pool of three will play each other on the same day, with the winner of each pool to progress to round two. The two sides with the best records outside of those six will join them in a quarter-final set up of eight teams.

Where will the Swannies watch the NAB Cup in Vietnam?
Hanoi, JASPAS
To celebrate the return of footy, we are going to get together at JASPAS (Hanoi Towers, Hai Ba Trung St) from 5pm to watch the first round of the NAB Cup. The first game starts at 5pm with the second being televised at 7.30pm.
But more importantly, our fearless Hanoi President, King Willy, has called for a club meeting. If you can only attend one meeting this year, this is the one! Open for discussion will be the calendar for 2011 including preparation for the much anticipated ANZAC Friendship Match in Vung Tau. It’s going to be huge!
Saigon, Spotted Cow
In Saigon, we’re at the Spotted Cow (111 Bui Vien St). Also threatening to attend is the President of the newly formed Guangzhou Scorpions, Jon Hopper! The Scorpions hope to tour to Saigon in October of this year.
Tomorrow at 1.30pm, the Saigon Committee shall meet at RMIT – and then, it’s the first kick of the pill for the season. Training starts at 2.30pm, RMIT University.
