Yesterday, the Herald Sun published an article about Chris Connolly signing a new two-year deal with the Melbourne Football Club.
The article says that Melbourne’s former football manager “broke his silence on the controversial (tanking) issue, saying he was determined to help rebuild the club.
Chris was actually in Vietnam earlier this year at the time of our ANZAC Friendship Match. He is a personal friend of Tracey Johnson from our Club Sponsor, Wide Eyed Tours.
When Chris was in Vung Tau, he visited the Swannies Bar, Tommy’s Bar (another Club sponsor) and publican, Glenn Nolan, took him on a tour of the Long Tan Cross.
Later that week, Chris attended the Swannies Sponsor’s Dinner in Saigon on 17 April 2013 and gave a guest presentation.
The article, by John Ralph, concludes with:
“(Connolly) plans to travel to Phuket as part of the 10-year anniversary of the Asian tsunami with Trish Broadbridge and the Reach Foundation.
” ‘I am doing a lot of personal development stuff, I am staying active in footy with RecLink (charity), I am doing some assistant coaching at Yarra Grammar School, and I just got back from Vietnam and Thailand for a fundraiser with the Vietnam Swans over Anzac Day,” he said.
‘ “It’s hard not being around the (Melbourne Football) Club to support everyone in a really tough time.
‘ “Everyone in the club is feeling the pinch because it’s a tough industry. We are doing it really hard and hopefully the wheel can turn this weekend.” ‘
