Dear Swannies and friends
Re: 6.30pm tomorrow, 8 March at the Spotted Cow, 111 Bui Vien Street, D1 – Danny’s farewell
As the Kiwis would say, Nick, Shag, Pain Train (toot toot) and Micky Francis “cheered” him off the ground on their shoulders at last November’s Indochina Cup. As the Aussies would say, tomorrow he will be cheered off by the Swannies with a couple of drinks at the Spotted Cow.
Danny Armstrong, our National Treasurer who has been as formidable on the field as he has off the field chasing Club money, is about to leave Vietnam.
This bloke has planned as many farewells as Johnny Farnham and Dave Kainey combined. Fittingly, each has been sold out. Tomorrow night it’s the Swannies turn and tomorrow night is our chance to remind him that “You can leave the country but you can’t leave the Club.”
Apologies for the late notice but you get that on the big jobs. Travis Fennell has already confirmed he will attend so it’s sensational to have some Hanoi representation for the man who has made such an important contribution to the developing story of the Swannies.

PS The amount of money raised by the Kiwis for Christchurch could top USD90,000. Will pass on details as soon as we know. And, incidentally, Danny and his Commonwealth Bank will get the necessary State Bank of Vietnam’s necessary approvals to enable the money to be transferred to the relief fund in New Zealand. Naturally, free of bank fees, charges and hassles. That’s just one of the things Mr Danny does off the field.
