The Swans and Tigers have come together to create a mega home and away series at both historical game spots – Kanchanaburi the site of the Burma Death Railway in World War 2 and Vung Tau the home base of many Australian soldiers during the Vietnam war and remains home to many Aussie Veterans and of course our own Vietnamese hosts. The Swans got inspiration for what is now our biggest day of the season from the Tigers to combining these 2 momentous events is something else! Players and non players get on board for the back to back ANZAC Classics!
In 2018 the following events are confirmed:
12 noon – Lagler Legends vs AFG All Stars Match coached by Rowan Luke (Lagler Legends) and Rod ‘Rocket’ Gillet – Always an epic battle and 2018 shapes up to be one of the greatest ever!
1:30pm – Auskick demonstration game.
2:15 – Vietnam Swans vs Thailand Tigers – the second game of the series and a rematch of the game that started the Friendship Match tradition for the Swans 10 years ago! If you’re keen for a run contact nationalpres@thevietnamswans.com
7pm – The McMillan Dinner featuring the Middleton Address given by the godfather of footy in Vietnam, Phil ‘Fabbo’ Johns on the path from Kanchanaburi to Vung Tau and the significance of the friendship match. Former Collingwood Magpies player Matthew Francis will also talk about his experiences playing 3 x ANZAC Day games on the MCG in front of crowds of 90,000 people during his career. Not to be missed event!
The Swans have organized one bus leaving Saigon 6pm Friday from out front of the Russian Markets – 328 Vo Van Kiet returning after the Melbourne v Essendon game on Sunday from Tommys Bar 3 in Vung Tau, otherwise ferries and Hoa Mai VIP vans are preferred methods of getting down there. Contact us if you need a hand.
