As the finishing touches are put on the preparations for the first-ever AFL Asia Cup we’re ecstatic to announce 2 companies with close connections to footy in Asia have come on board as sponsors of the event. Their support enables the continued growth of football in Asia and helps elevate the event that has attracted around 300 players from 10 countries across the Asian continent. They join a host of fantastic supporters of this groundbreaking event including Monsoon Carbon, Coca-Cola, FV Hospital, VBH Travel, Sherrin, and Tribal Sports.
Expat Taxes, founded in 2006 by Shane Macfarlane (an Australian Chartered Accountant and expat who has lived and worked in the USA, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam), specialises solely in expatriate tax returns and advice for Australian expatriates. Their client base includes many of the Australians throughout Asia who have helped build the sport to the level where events like this weekend are possible.
Asked about the sponsorship announcement Shane told us, “As a company built by Australian expats, we understand the power of sport in bringing people together and fostering a sense of community. We’re thrilled to be sponsoring the inaugural AFL Asia Cup in Ho Chi Minh City. Witnessing the AFL support this event, bringing together 15 teams from 10 countries across Asia, fills us with immense pride. It’s an incredible opportunity to showcase Australian culture and the exciting world of Australian Rules Football to a whole new audience. We’re not just supporting this event, but also the vibrant Australian expat lifestyle thriving all over the globe.”
Pyramid Logistics was founded by none other than Doan Dang, the Vietnam Buffaloes captain in this tournament. They have offices in Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi providing air and sea freight, customs handling, and domestic and cross-border land transportation services both inbound and outbound from Vietnam. Dang has been one of the brightest local-born Swans’ stars in the 5 years since he discovered Australian Rules and his leadership in pulling the first Buffaloes representative squad has seen him named the country’s first-ever National team captain.
Of the coming tournament, Dang told us, “It’s an incredible honour to be named captain of the Vietnam Buffaloes and represent our country in the first-ever AFL Asia Cup. This is a historic moment for Australian Rules Football in Vietnam. We’re excited to show our skills and passion for the sport on the international stage. I’m also proud that our company Pyramid Logistics has decided to support this tournament and the sport’s growth. Together, we’re making history.”
