Kev McMillan has moved on this afternoon.

The Vietnam Swans are very saddened to learn of the passing of Kev McMillan this afternoon after losing his stoic struggle against cancer back in Australia.

Thankfully, we managed to rename the post ANZAC Friendship Match Dinner the McMillan Dinner, in his honour. Upon being advised of the proposal, Kev was most pleased and wrote, “If the Swannies believe it to be appropriate, then I would be chuffed.”

Kev’s son Dave followed up with the Swans:

I just wanted to say what an honour the naming of the Dinner after Dad is; it’s incredible. I haven’t seen him so happy all week. He is just so appreciative. Dad constantly reads news of the Swannies to us… and (he) talks about the ANZAC weekends (the tours and the game!) constantly – even if it means I’ve heard the story 5 times now 🙂

The very good news is that Steve Drummond was able to film the McMillan Dinner, including Peter Taylor’s speech, and upload a Kevin McMillan Tribute onto the web for Kev – which Kev was able to view himself.

Last Tuesday, the day before ANZAC Day, Kev wrote (via his son) that he was “Finally into a wheel chair briefly so my boys are surprising me with a visit to watch the (ANZAC) march at the RSL tomorrow!!! Along with a mate I served with in VN!!!”

The Vietnam Swans send our deepest sympathies and condolences to Kev’s family and friends. We shall proudly wear black armbands in Kev’s honour at our next international match.
