We had an amazing selection of photos to choose from in this year’s Swannie of September competition.
Right up there was Natty Payne and Monkey’s Josh holding the 2013 Premiership Cup – before a ball had even been bounced in anger for the 2013 Finals.
Other great entries included Brad Vernon standing in front of a dramatic sugar cane burn off in Townsville; the Vernons celebrating Ron’s 70th birthday in Townsville wearing their Swannies shirts; Hawthorn Skipper, Luke Hodge wearing a Swannies hat at training in Grand Final week; and Swannies Dave Kainey and Same Conroy at the Singapore Wombats Grand Final function.
But, the winner of 2013’s Swannie in September is the nephew of Coach, Andy Glendinning’s nephew who went to the MCG in full Swannies’ kit to watch Sydney beat Geelong in the semi finals.
Interestingly, the winning photo was taken in front of the Dick Reynolds statue which describes Reynolds as “A brilliant and scrupulously fair footballer who captained / coached Essendon to four premierships in 1942, 1946, 1949 and 1950 during a coaching career from 1939 to 1960”.
Change the dates and the club and one could be forgiven for thinking that they were describing Andy’s reign at the Swannies.
Congratulations to Andy’s nephew for being the winner of the 2013 Swannie of September! He wins a Swannies polo shirt.
