The ANZAC Friendship Weekend was born under the banner of ‘Honouring lost lives, Saving young lives’ and in 2022 we’re still focused on these ethos.

Through the last 2 years of Covid one of the most severly impacted sectors has been charities yet this has been overlooked with the impact in so many other areas. Many have lost their typical funding and volunteer sources and had to reduce or adjust the ways they operate. 2 of our key ANZAC Friendship Weekend partners have both endured challenges in these spaces, both the Vung Tau Veterans & Friends Children’s Fund and the Centre for Social Protection of Children in Vung Tau and Long Hai have had the ability to donate of many donors limited and volunteers unable to travel to Vietnam as they had previously. Despite this both remain dedicated to their fantastic causes and we’re proud to still have both as a key part of the 2022 Friendship Weekend!

The Centre for Social Protection of Children

The 2 centres in Vung Tau and nearby Long Hai take in abandoned, sick or disabled, poverty stricken or disrupted family impacted children. A big part of the weekend has become a visit to the centres on Friday and 2022 will be no different. We have been lucky enough to secure some fantastic AFL club shirts from the AFL to give to the kids alongside some footies to kick around and the essential ice creams which are a key part of any visit. We will leave Vung Tau at around 9:30am, contact Eric Kerrison to join the visit.

Secondly we will be conducting a rafflw on Saturday with 100% of proceeds going to the centres, please look out for and generously purchase your tickets to win some great prizes – make sure you look after the prize donors in the future as their generousity is helping us help those who need it so badly.

Vung Tau Veterans & Friends Children’s Fund

The VTVFCF set out to provide suitable housing to the people of the Vung Tau/Ba Ria province that are raising children in less than desirable conditions. They do this by working closely with local communities to find out who is the most needy and how to provide what they need in the most effective ways possible. This really hands on approach has bought about some incredible results in the local area, you can view some of this at https://vtvfcf.org/projects/

The guys at VTVFCF are always a key part of our ANZAC Friendship Weekends and 2022 is no different, they run the gate – please donate generously! – and provide the catering to keep us all going throughout the day.

Have a chat to the guys about some of their projects, buy a shirt and give them a pat on the back across the weekend!
