Queensland Premier, Anna Bligh has said, “It’s a great relief this morning to be able to say at this time we have no report of casualties, serious injuries or any fatalities” after Cyclone Yasi – but the picture in the region would become clearer as reports came in from smaller and isolated communities.
The Brisbane Courier Mail writes that “Cardwell looks like a tsunami has hit. The coastal community about 50km south of Tully is completely devastated and looks more like a junkyard.”
It also reports that “Tully is emerging as one of the worst-hit by Cyclone Yasi, with a local councillor estimating half of the homes have been damaged.”
Meanwhile, last night in Vietnam, we welcomed in the Year of the Cat. Chuc Mung Nam Moi and wishing everyone, especially the weather-beaten Queenslanders, peace, prosperity and happiness!
