Today’s Herald Sun has reported on last weekend’s Manila Cup in the Philippines.
The article has been reproduced below.
Ron Barassi and Murray Weideman (to side) travelled to the Philippines last week to present the Manila Cup, a football lightening premiership between eight teams of expatriates and locals from six Asian countries.
More than 160 players from Hong Kong, Malaysia, Vietnam, Laos, Singapore and the Philippines competed in 35C heat at the Manila Polo Club with the local Eagles side winning.
Barassi and Weideman were not the only former VFL-AFL stars to make the trip. Others included Barry Davis, Simon Beasley, Dale Weightman and Jim Jess.
