Former 1968 Premiership player in the Vietnam Football League, Dick Johnson, at yesterday's AFL Grand Final Replay in Saigon, speaks with Paula

As you may have already heard, the ‘Pies belted the Saints yesterday in the 2010 AFL Grand Final Replay. Collingwood won 108 to St Kilda’s 52.

In Hanoi, the Swannies hosted a Replay Party at JASPAS again. It was another big success with nearly 150 people returning.

In Saigon, we went to a new venue, LesudGaudir. Unfortunately, the weather turned ugly an hour before the kick off which deterred a few people from coming out. Nevertheless, we still had 100 attend – including a man by the name of Dick Johnston.

Dick is a Vietnam Veteran who played in the VFL (Vietnam Football League). In 1968, Dick played in both premiership sides and in one of the Grand Finals, managed to boot 4 of the 10 goals!

The VFL was played in Vung Tau at the Lord Mayor’s Oval – which is the same venue as the Vietnam Swans ANZAC Friendship Match (but now is known as the Dog Track).

Dick has already committed to attending our ANZAC Friendship Match next year which will be played against the Hong Kong Dragons. The match will be played at the Dog Track in Vung Tau on Saturday 23 April, 2011.

The footy in Vietnam has just become a little bit more special.
