The first ever AFL Asia Cup was hosted in Ho Chi Minh City on the 6th, 7th and 8th of December with 10 countries and 14 teams going head to head for ultimate glory. 3 days of fantastic footy saw several clubs play as a 100% national team for the first time – including the Vietnam Buffaloes! Japan (Men’s Division) and Thailand (Women’s Division) emerged victorious after fantastic performances throughout the tournament. This event could not have been staged without the support of the AFL and some wonderful sponsors. Thanks to all of these fantastic sponsors for helping to grow the sport of AFL at the grass roots across Asia!

MONSOON CARBON

Gus McEwin (a Swans Hall of Fame member) and the Monsoon Carbon team committed to supporting the Buffaloes squad ahead of the tournament. Their support was a key factor enabling the Buffaloes to debut at a home tournament. As this concept grows Monsoon’s generous support will be remembered as a catalyst behind the growth of football in Vietnam.

Vietnam’s first-ever national team captain – Doan Dang – is a co-founder of of Pyramid Logistics. A leading provider of air and sea freight, customs handling, and domestic and cross-border land transportation services both inbound and outbound from Vietnam. Dang was an inspirational leader on the field throughout the AFL Asia Cup and his support of football in Vietnam is highly appreciated!

Shane Macfarlane is a long-time Swans player and supporter and stepped up to support this tournament providing extensive graphic design services in the lead-up. Micky Francis is one of the founders of the Vietnam Swans and another Hall of Famer! Him and the VBH Travel team provided tireless support to the tournament facilitating accommodation and transportation for all the teams competing. FV Hospital provided medical support to the players throughout the tournament ensuring complete safety for all! Thankfully due to the fantastic player etiquette throughout they weren’t needed for anything too serious.

Coca-Cola, a strong partner of the Al Fresco’s Group supported us with their refreshing Coke Zero, Sprite, Fanta and Thums Up products enabling us to provide refreshments to the countless volunteers throughout the weekend!

AL FRESCO’S GROUP

The Al Fresco’s Group (AFG) have supported the Swans since their inception. This tournament was no different with the Al Fresco’s team putting in the long hours to feed and hydrate players and supporters on all 3 days at the field. It wouldn’t be much of a tournament without Sherrin footies! Sherrin provided customised tournament match balls contributing to the incredible quality of football throughout.
