Swannie, Damo Judd, loves the footy and the camaraderie. Below he relates how Geoff Riedy saved teh life of an old lady on Sunday night.
Last weekend’s loss to the Malaysian Warriors marked our second in the EAAFL’s Inaugural season.
MJ’s match report covered the events as they happened. Thanks to the finely tuned organizing, come rain, hail or broken buses, we all made it to the match.
The O’Shea family put most others to shame with their supreme fitness. The Silver Fox, as predicted, kicked the initial goal to get us all firing. Our back line was sporting matching black eyes from the endless barrage. There were a couple of stand outs – in particular, first gamers Marty and New Josh. In all, a supreme team effort that shows why we recently introduced Heart of a Swan nominations and just how hard it is to pick each time.
My nomination for Heart of a Swan goes to Geoffrey Riedy, a guy most of us had just met for the first time – and he didn’t even play the game.
The football is awesome but being on tour with the Swans never ends at the final whistle. Even after an exhausting weekend and returning to Saigon / Hanoi and Danang on different flights, a number of the crew in Saigon were so pumped on the Swans’ touring experience that they reassembled on Sunday evening.
When the festivities finally died down, Evan Koch decided he had not yet soaked in enough atmosphere. Geoff, after listening to the coach’s inspiring “Buddy” speech, decided to stick with Evan.
It was their first night in Vietnam and they decided to cruise the streets to get their bearings and admire all the closed roller doors of the shop fronts. Out of the corner of Geoff’s eye, he noticed a tiny movement in the shadows; otherwise unseen in a city of millions of people. The movement was a little old lady collapsing into the gutter unconscious.
Without hesitation, Geoff dived in and performed CPR to save the lady’s life.
