Eddie McGuire’s ‘Pies will now do what the Swannies have been doing for years: source their own playing kit.

The Age Newspaper has reported today that Pies put their shirts on move into rag trade. Cameron Houston reports that,

The Magpies will become the first major Australian sports team to make its own kit, after severing a long-term sponsorship agreement with international manufacturer adidas.

Collingwood has gone into partnership with a Melbourne-based company that will make the famed guernsey in China — with the club taking a share of all profits from merchandise sales.

Swannie, Nat Payne has written in to the Swannies’ Blog with some insightful comments and analysis:

Imitation is the greatest form of flattery and finally the Pies are looking towards Asia for inspiration.  Haven’t the Swans been making their own kit for years?
 
The article quotes, “One AFL insider questioned the wisdom of the uniform deal, pointing out that other sporting giants such as Real Madrid or Manchester United had not gone down that path.”
 
McGuire doesn’t take the lead from Real Madrid or Man U.  The word is that he doesn’t change his undies without checking in with the Swannies first. Collingwood. Pfft…
