Nathan Jones is a star player and Vice Captain for Melbourne Football Club. In 2007, Jones came third for the Rising Star Award – behind Joel Selwood and Scott Pendlebury. Last year, he won Melbourne’s Best and Fairest and finished in the Brownlow’s Top 20 with 14 votes. He is also the son of a Vietnam Veteran.

This year, Nathan has signed a Melbourne jumper for the Vietnam Swans which will be auctioned at our 2013 AFL Grand Final Party in Saigon next weekend.*

This year, Nathan also stars in Melbourne’s entry for Virgin Australia’s Short Film Festival which showcases AFL Clubs going the “Extra Mile”.

“Sam Arnold is fighting cancer. Incredibly, that’s not his concern. The single father, who cannot work, simply wants to give his six-year-old son, Sydney, a birthday present. That’s when Nathan Jones and Jack Watts answer the call, giving Sam his wish and Sydney a birthday he’ll never forget.”

In the final scene, Sydney runs out onto the field with the Melbourne footballers before a big match. Sydney keeps repeating, “It’s awesome”.

Be sure to “Like” the video. So far, Melbourne is in second place (behind St Kilda but in front of Freo).

* Special thanks to Nathan Jones from the Vietnam Swans. Special thanks to Garry Bail-Smith for organising the jumper. Garry shall attend an Auskick training session on 12 October in Saigon before he starts cycling and running to Hanoi to raise money for KOTO with his Run KOTO Run campaign.
