Ossies boots bound for Tommys Sports Bar - now guarded by the Vernons!

Richard “Ossie” Osborne has advised that he would like to donate a pair of football boots, in which he booted a bag of 10, to Tommy’s Sports Bar, Vung Tau. Tommy’s is a sponsor of the Vietnam Swans.

In the ANZAC Friendship Match, Ossie will play the first half for the Vietnam Swans and in the second half, he will play for the Hong Kong Dragons.

To help himself prepare for Vietnam, yesterday Ossie was taken by Stan Middleton and John Carey to Melbourne’s Noble Park RSL Club to meet veterans. Ossie reports that he had “a great day with the lads.”

Pictured above, guarding the entrance to Tommy’s Swannies Bar, are Ron and Ailsa Vernon. Ron will be a particularly special guest at next weekend’s ANZAC Friendship Match. He played in the 1967 Premiership (RAAF) team at the Lord Mayor’s Oval.
