Shannon Leahy reports on the Swannies’ 2012 Supercoach season which was won by Ross McRae for the second consecutive year.

Ah’ McRae, he’s done it again and we’re not talking posters this time! That was the word on the street Sunday night all over Saigon and Binh Duong as the masses quickly learned of Ross’ back to back Vietnam Swans Supercoach premiership.

Shannon “Shags” Leahy was obliterated in what could only be described as one of the worst Grand Final performances of all time. In Grand Final scenes that would rival Port Adelaide’s flogging by Geelong in the 2007 Grand Final, the ‘Radelaide Cows’ were rolled by Ross McRae ‘Ah’s’ 2375 to 2085.

Rosco’s ‘unique’ foot soldiers led by Swan (175) Boyd (129) and Franklin (112) trumped all over the ‘muppets’ that made up the final ‘Radelaide Cows’ lineup led by unworthy characters such as Dustin Martin (19), Goodes (69)  and Marc Murphy (78).

Things didn’t go all Rossco’s way throughout the season, in fact, it was quite the opposite. Half way through the regular super coach season, Ross needed to be rescued from the dregs of depression. Ah’ McRae’s team (AHS) were down towards the bottom of the ladder and the supercoach genius was unable to even field a full team. Shirts were being made with the logo “I beat Ross” and they were selling like hot cakes. Michael Leahy was seen proudly wearing his shirt in the streets of Adelaide after humiliating Ross at the beginning of the season.

To support Ross and his depression, the household of Shagga Leahy, Gus and Daisy were called in for suicide watch and were required to spend countless hours listening to hard luck sob stories mainly at Ross’s local stomping ground “Gingers 60”, which has recently opened up a “Phil Johns – Vietnam Swans” bar at the back of the venue.

Dave O’Shea who was leading the competition during the season, had to cop abusive daily e-mails from Ross telling him that he was lucky to be leading the comp and that supercoach is all about luck.

Somehow, Ross was able to turn his bad luck around with some wise tactical decisions and he managed to squeeze into the top 8 at 7^th spot. Rosco had all his players back for the finals and had a number of bench players that could cover any of his injuries. He also had saved up just enough trades and was able to steamroll the competition when it mattered at the end of the season.

Rossco proved again why he is the Supercoach oracle of Saigon, trading in wisely and leaving just enough ammunition to see him come back from the dead to win back to back supercoach titles.

The Reserves

In the reserves league final, which was a battle between the bottom 8 sides. Dave Hadley was the winner. Angry Dave in fact outscored Ross in the final and finished the competition with a mighty strong team. Angry will be looking for some early season wins next year to secure a spot in the top 8 and go for the overall title.

Thanks to Rosco for organizing what was an awesome comp this year, including his insightful pre-match previews. Thanks to all the first time SC blokes as well who left their mark including Timmmayyyy, Mick (Shagger’s Dad), Mr Pow-ell and remarkably Dave O’Shea, who must be a mature age entrant as he fired like a fantasy footy veteran, even taking top spot of the overall Dreamteam ladder for much of the 2012 season.

Odds are already short for a 3^rd Grand Final rematch between Shagger and Rossco in 2013, but with a gaggle of budding supercoach Swannies, the field is wide open. Bring on Supercoach 2013!
