Thanks to Wayne McMahon for pulling together this weeks final round preview!
Presentations will be at 86 Pham Viet Chanh, Binh Thanh after the game. You can go straight from the field or get changed. We will be celebrating the season over a few Al Fresco’s Pizzas and awarding the Premiership Cup and Medals as well as the Mens and Womens MVP for the season and the leading goal kicker award!
As we head into the final round of the SAFL each team has everything to play for – however some certain individuals (*cough* Milner brothers *cough*) seem to have missed that memo with multiple players unavailable due to early Christmas celebrations or “family commitments”.
Round 3 will see the Tigers (2nd) and Vipers (3rd) combine forces to fight off the Bears (1st) and Crocs (4th)
After a strong Vung Tau tournament and opening round of the SAFL, the Vipers have dropped to 3rd place on the ladder and have appeared to spit the dummy with many of their stars making themselves unavailable for Saturday’s matchup. They’ll need to secure a win in order to avoid a wooden spoon finish – a result that many deemed impossible at the beginning of the year with pundits declaring them as flag favourites. Expect to see big contributions from young ruckman Cooper who will face off against Jono once again and Wayne Hagen (Wayne 2.0, Wayne2, Wayne no-hair) who will be looking to impact the game.
Meanwhile their allies for this week, the Tigers, will be left to do the grunt of the work. Quite the stitch-up from Round 1 when they had to face the Vipers at full strength + featuring the ultimate ring-in. A win on Saturday should see them take out the coveted premiership cup. But they’ll need as much help as they can get through the middle from Dinh Anh and Billy in what will be a grueling midfield matchup. Expect to see plenty of scores (goals or behinds we don’t know) from Wayno (with hair) up forward with John supporting with his usual chaotic running and attack.
On the other side of the match-up the Crocs will be keen to get their first win of the SAFL and send the Vipers to the bottom of the ladder. We could see a twin towers forward line setup with Rooster and Josh ‘Oil-hands’ Pike deep in the forward line. New recruit Rusty comes in under an injury cloud however I’d still take him legless than half of the North Melbourne squad. They’ll also again be looking for efforts from Lucy who was valuable up forward in Round 2.
Playing alongside the Crocs, the Bears have a premiership on the line with a win guaranteeing them to lift the cup in 2021. Featuring arguably the best midfield in the comp with Jono, Ryan and a red crayon woops I mean Aaron Clerkin, they’ll be ready to again dominate the clearance and stoppages game. If they can get a run-on with goals from the middle, they’ll be very hard to stop.
With all to play for we hope to see a great turnout on Saturday. Arrive at 10:15am for a 10:30am first bounce.
