Here we go again! Round 2 of the SAFL got within hours of happening back in May before fields were closed we’re now ready to go again.

The Layoff

It’s been 188 days between Round 1 and 2 of the SAFL, we’ve seen varying approaches to lockdown with some players coming back leaner and meaner looking and a few looking like they holed up at Burger King for the 27 weeks since we last played. Will it change the on field fortunes of the teams?

Premiership Race

This year’s Saigon Cup Premiership will be decided over 3 rounds, teams join each week but maintain their own scores creating a ladder based on points and percentage.

The Vipers have being on fire, holding a clean sheet at the VFL round games in Vung Tau and were winners in Round 1 sitting pretty on top of the ladder. The Bears and Tigers team up for this round and have been relatively disappointing so far in the season, could they come back from the break and start living up to some expectations? The Vipers did have a questionable ring in in Round 1 winning Best On Ground, can their new recruits keep up the high standards?

The New Recruits

This is the key talking point of Round 2, the 27 weeks have been kind to our playing stocks with plenty of talent topping up the 4 team lists.

The Bears will be a harder outfit with Brisbane Lions wingman and hard nut Mitch Robinson (aka Aaron Clerkin) donning the sash, Carey looking good on the training track and Quan has been one of the standouts of the promising batch of new Vietnamese players shining since the return to training.

The Tigers will be hoping their mid season selections can finally help them achieve the results they’ve threatened all season. Tony has plenty of training under his belt now ready to be put into game situations, Ed impressed in his first training session, John has the speed to tear games apart and Bao has been developing at an incredible rate week on week.

The Crocs may be the team to watch after their Mid Season draft haul. The Cherry Man (Andy) will add plenty of outside dash, Dat has shown plenty since joining the Swans, Rusty showed his centre clearance strength in his first session, Pete has all the tools to be another Irish crossover star and Lucy’s availability has now cleared up bolstering the Croc’s female ranks.

The Vipers have been on the good side of recruits this season, the new batch will be looking to keep it up. Coop has been huge in the ruck of late, Wayne looks to have a rare game sense, Thuy has proven elusive in game situations connecting to some great end to end team ball movement and Ha has some incredible training form.
