Yesterday, The Age reported that a Sydney man bid AUD123,000 in an auction to be the first person to buy a seat on the first commercial flight of the world’s largest airliner, the Airbus A380. Julian Hayward was the successful bidder and for that price he gets to fly one-way, in first class, from Singapore to Sydney. Bargain.
On the same day, the Swans Matt Wenke sent a text message from Sydney confirming that he had collected a footy from the Sydney Swans which has been signed by all of their players. Matt will bring the footy back to Vietnam where it will be the prime piece of sporting memorabilia to be auctioned off at the Vietnam Swans 2007 AFL Grand Final Party in Hanoi.
The value of the footy has probably increased enormously following Sydney’s demolition job on the Hawks this weekend. Whether or not that has been enough to ensure that it fetches the same price as a Singapore Airlines Maiden Voyage price remains to be seen, Mind you, adding to the interest is the fact that the successful bidder will be the world’s first person to buy a piece of sporting memorabilia from the Vietnam Swans (previously Hanoi Swans) first ever Grand Final Party at the live telecast of the world’s largest Aussie Rules event, the AFL Grand Final.
Gee, if the lines were open right now, the Swans Blog would even put in a bid.
Gee Whiz, what if the Sydney Swans actually win the Grand Final…
How good is the AFL Grand Final??
The Vietnam Swans thank the Sydney Swans very much for their generous support of footy in Asia.
