Last Saturday, 18 August 2012, was Vietnam Veterans’ Day.

The Vietnam Swans attended the service at the Long Tan Cross with up to 1,000 other people.

After the service, Swans’ National President, Phil Johns, together with Geoff Everett (Dog) from the Thailand Tigers, laid a wreath at the Cross.

The wreath was laid on behalf of the Vietnam Swans, Thailand Tigers, Hong Kong Dragons and China Reds.

It is customary for the Vietnam Swans to lay a wreath at both the ANZAC Day and Vietnam Veterans’ Day services. The wreath bears the names of the clubs that have already played in the ANZAC Friendship Match and Thailand. Hong Kong and China played in 2011 and 2012 respectively. Thailand is included because it hosts its own ANZAC Day Match in Kanchanaburi near Hellfire Pass and lays a wreath at that service on behalf of the Swans.

Next year, the Jakarta Bintangs will be added to the wreath as they will be playing in the 2013 ANZAC Friendship Match on 27 April.

Lest We Forget.
