The Boomarang Bistro, home of the Swannies’ AFL Grand Final Party in Saigon, will sponsor tomorrow’s scratch match: a chicken parmiagana, a pint and a bottle of plonk for both the Best on Ground and Heart of a Swannie.

Chief Sporting Columnist for the Swannies’ Website, Dave O’Shea previews tomorrow’s, all new, Boomarang Scratch Match between the Reds and the Whites.

It’s an exciting time to be a Swannie at the moment. Here’s just a few (plus one!) of the reasons why:

  1. The “thevietnamswans.com” website is smashing out monthly records for hits.
  2. The Saigon Presidential Election is in full swing and is possibly going to be the closest poll in election history.
  3. The Swannies’ 2012 AFL Grand Final Party in Saigon will be held at the Tick, Tick, BOOMARANG and, in a few weeks’ time, it is easily going to be Saigon’s biggest and best event of the year (Ed’s note: and not just because Dave’s Mum and Dad will also be there!).
  4. This Saturday we will have another first for Saigon: the Swannies’ Boomarang Scratch Match and it will, no doubt, be played with a similar level of skill to the AFL Grand Final.

What: The Swannies’ Boomarang Scratch Match
Where: RMIT, District 7
When: Saturday 8th September, 2:00pm
What to Wear: Swannies jersey, (Whites inside out; Reds properly)
Series: Saigon Whites, 3, Lead Saigon Reds 2

Prizes: Parma, pint of beer and bottle of plonk sponsored by the Boomarang Bistro for the BOG and HOS (Heart of a Swanny) BOOM, BOOM! SHAKE, SHAKE THE ROOM!!!

Last match Johnny Mac gave away two tickets to the Auscharm Ball (some tickets to the Auscham Ball are still available, click here for further information). And so, for this match, Adam from the Boomarang Bistro will sponsor two awesome prizes. These prizes will be judged by Rocket who is the finest umpire and judge in Saigon.

The tickets will be presented at the Booma where we will watch Geelong Vs Fremantle in Week 1 of the 2012 AFL Finals. Adam has reserved his two best tables and they will be positioned right in front of one of his biggest plasmas – just above some of the biggest parmas you have ever seen.

How good is rocking up to a Swannies’ Boomarang Scratch Match when you know that you have a chance of winning a prize??

Dave O’Shea says that the “Reds’ forward line was out of sorts last match (led by) Billy Crang (who) had his worst match of the season. In fairness, Billy’s previous night was his best of the season. Last Time They Met

The last match saw the Whites return to form with a hard fought one goal victory. The White team had a big lead going into the fourth quarter but the Reds put everything they had into the 4th quarter and got back to within just a goal. The siren beat them in the end and the Whites picked up the victory they so badly needed. The Reds will be looking for a better start to the match this time whereas the Whites will be looking to finish the match stronger.

The four points

Last match saw Kiwi Kurt win the “Heart of a Swannie” award which was presented by John MacFarlane. Kurt picked up two tickets to the Auscharm Ball for his hard run and attack at the foot-ball from the half back line. Will he be able to repeat his performance for the Reds this week?

The Whites will be hoping for the return of Kevin “the” Hornblower. Kevin was out last match with an ankle injury that he picked up from the Asian Champs and his on field presence was sorely missed. The Whites will be hoping for the return of their superstar.

The Red forward line was out of sorts last match. Billy Crang had his worst match of the season and the talk around Saigon is that he has been sent to Thailand for a high altitude training camp. The Reds will be hoping that the return of Ryan “Revo” Evans and GUS can add some fire to their forward line.

The Whites will be relying on the two presidential candidates, Mega Bretta Jotta and Nicko Shiells. Two Saigon guns fighting it out for one position. Can they put the campaigning behind them and work together in one team? The White team will certainly be hoping so.
