Gun Swannie, Irish John (Redmond) is leading the Saigon Gaels charge to next month’s Asian Gaelic Championship in Kuala Lumpur.

Irish John (Redmond) loves playing for the Swannies – and he also loves his Gaelic footy. Next month, the Asian Gaelic Games will be held in Kuala Lumpur.

Below, John puts a call out for fellow Swannies to join him and the Saigon Gaels in KL.

As I’m sure you know, the Saigon Gaels will be competing in the Asian Champs on the 27th of October in KL. Already, a few of the Swannies have signed up for this year’s Championships which is “AWESOMENESS” (sounds better when Fabbo says it) but we would greatly appreciate a few more faces.

In the last tournament, we caused quite a few upsets, taking the scalps of Thailand and Malaysia. Many of our players received plaudits after the games by the organisers, particularly our Australian contingent who won plenty of supporters and possibly a few enemies after some big, not quite legal, hits.

With the Swannies already having progressed again this year, I am hopeful that the Gaels can come someway close to emulating your success and that’s where you guys come in.

John sports his Swannies’ wrist band at the Spotted Cow, Saigon. More evidence. More awesomeness.

We understand that quite a few of the Swans are worried about the speed and technique of Gaelic football but if Big Bad Bustlin’ Billy can keep up with play, then anyone can (Ed’s note: controversial call there on the Billy Cranger). Matches tend to be quite short and there are unlimited substitutions so there will be plenty of game time (and rest) for everyone. Our aim this year is to push on from last year and give the Asian Championship a rattle.

JASPAS (part of the Al Frescoe’s Group which is a sponsor of the Swannies) has kindly donated two brand new Gaelic footballs for us. They will arrive this week for anyone who is interested in having a kick about at training.
