The Vietnam Swans’ National President sends email of support for the Tokyo Goannas who have launched a Japan Earthquake Appeal.

Dear Swannies and friends

Following Friday’s catastrophic tsunami, Japan has suffered what its Prime Minister has described as an “unprecedented national disaster”.

Due to the sheer scale of devastation, I forward to you an email sent by Andrew Peyton, President of the Tokyo Goannas Australian Football Club, to all Asian footy clubs yesterday. The Goannas have established a Japan Earthquake Appeal and Andrew’s email is reproduced, in full, directly below.

I very much appreciate that many of you have already donated generously to recent appeals. Some will rightly think that we’re a footy club that can’t save the world. Others will think that it is more important for the Swans to focus our attention on Vietnam (the Swannies will raise funds at next month’s ANZAC Friendship Match in Vung Tau and April’s Swing… to Swim Charity Golf Day at Montgomerie Links, Danang, to support the Royal Life Saving Society of Australia’s global conference on drowning prevention. In Vietnam, more children die from drowning than road accidents).

Notwithstanding any of the above, this email is simply forwarded to those who would like to respond to Japan’s tragedy. Like the Vietnam Swans, the Tokyo Goannas are made up of a bunch of eclectic people from many backgrounds and professions grateful for their experience of working and living in their host country. In the face of such a human disaster of mountainous proportions, the Tokyo Goannas would now like to wave a handkerchief of support to the people of Japan.

If you would like to assist, Andrew’s email is below.
