As people queued to get into Jaspas, Hanoi, on that Grand Final morning back in 2003, someone mentioned that the (formerly) Hanoi Swans had been in Melbourne’s Herald Sun newspaper the previous day.

What? We were in the Herald Sun on Grand Final eve? Yer jokin’! What for? How did the Mighty Bloods snaggle that one? 

It turned out that the Pied Piper of Hanoi: the mighty, the magical, the mercurial Micky Francis had been interviewed on the phone earlier in the week. It also turns out that Mick set a precedent.

Since then, more stories have been written about the Swans in the Herald Sun as well as Adelaide’s Sunday Mail and the AFL’s J Squad Magazine. In Vietnam, stories have appeared in the Vietnam News and the following magazines: Timeout, Outlook, AsiaLife and Pathfinder.
