Today, the Thailand Tigers forwarded a proposal to all the competing teams about the number of players on the field in each match. The original proposal was 14 players + 8 interchange players. The new proposal is that there are 16 on-field players + 8 interchange players for a total of 24.
The Swans voted “Yes” to the proposal (no discussion is being entered into with the Organising Committee. They are only seeking “Yes” or “No” votes). We will advise what the rest of the clubs vote (so far, Malaysia and Hong Kong have voted “yes”; UAE has voted “No”).
The number of players for each of the teams is interesting. The Swans thought they may have been in front with 39 players. We’re not; the Tiges alone have 44. Meanwhile, the Singapore Wombats who were supposed to have travelled to Manila with a “whopping 40 odd” two years ago, have just 25.
Here are the numbers:
- Bali Geckos – 30
- China Reds – 29
- Hong Kong Dragons – 42
- Jakarta Bintangs – 43
- Japan Goannas – 22
- Malaysian Warriors – 40
- Singapore Wombats – 25
- Thailand Tigers – 44
- UAE Heat – 26
- Vietnam Swans – 39
And, the Philippines Eagles still have another 10 who are looking for a home.
The deadline for voting on the proposal to revise the number of players is Friday, 6 July.
