Swim Vietnam has taught 526 children how to swim in the first half of this year.

Jo Stewart, Director of Swim Vietnam, recently released the charity’s June Newsletter. The Vietnam Swans are a supporter of Swim Vietnam.

The June newsletter lists Swim Vietnam’s main achievements as:

  • 526 children successfully taught to date in 2012
  • Over 3,000 children successfully taught since inception of program in 2008
  • 62 teachers trained
  • 4 swimming pool venues

Jo writes that:

“We have erected our second above ground swimming pool in Duy Xuyen which is about 40km away from our base in Hoi An. We should teach around 300 kids in this new venue this summer, possibly more depending on when rainy season kicks in.

“We have secured complete funding for a new in ground pool in Hoi An. Construction will begin on Sunday 10th June and it will take 2 months to complete. This will double our capacity in Hoi An and allow us to reach our target of making free swimming lessons available to all children in Hoi An. Many thanks to our donors – Capital Group Companies, Paul Sadler Swimland, Hoi An People’s Committee and Hoi An Education Department who contributed the funds for this new pool.

“We have embarked on an exciting new relationship with Paul Sadler Swimland in Australia. They will support the Swim Vietnam program in our new pool as well as supporting a number of teacher exchanges between Vietnam and Melbourne each year. This will be invaluable in increasing the experience and skills of our teachers and ensure that the Swim Vietnam program is a model of excellence for swim teaching and teacher training in Vietnam. A huge thank you to Paul and everyone at Swimland!”
