This coming weekend, Saturday 22 October, the Vietnam Swans were scheduled to play the newly formed Guangzhou Scorpions in Saigon.
Injuries and work commitments have decimated the Scorpions’ squad – yet, they have managed to keep the tour alive, albeit with reduced numbers. This is an outstanding effort by the Scorpions who must have considered cancelling the tour.
The Swannies remember very clearly how difficult it is to start a Club and we therefore applaud the Scorpions’ efforts to proceed with the tour. The Scorpions have kept the ream alive by giving us all another opportunity to play footy.
However, with only seven tourers, the result of any formal match would be meaningless. So, the decision has been made to form two new teams on the day comprising a mix of players from Vung Tau, Hanoi, Guangzhou and Saigon.
What would you call two teams that are a mix of Swans and Scorpions? Swapions and Scorns, of course!
Swapions will wear the Swannies jumpers. Scorns shall wear the Scorpions’ jumper.
Honk if you love the footy in Asia! Honk!
