The 9th Annual Asian Australian Football Championships is approaching – and the Vietnam Swans have just received an official invitation from hosts, the Singapore Wombats. It will be held on 6 September 2008 at the Singapore Polo Club. According to the blurb, the Polo Club is located in the rain forest belt of Singapore and it’s facilities and playing surfaces are “unsurpassed” in Singapore. Last year, the Polo Club hosted the 2007 Asian Gaelic Games which featured over 600 competitors on 3 fields.
With these facilities, the Singapore Wombats hope to involve even more teams than last year’s ten teams. The game format is likely to be:
- 4-5 preliminary matches to determine which two teams will play off in the Grand Final
- 14-16 players per match with a restricted number on the bench
- 12-15 minute halves for each preliminary match
- Grand Final to be 14-16 per side playing 2×20 minute halves
The proposed schedule is:
Friday 5 August 2008
- Day: Asian Championships Golf Day
- Evening: Asian Championships Opening
Saturday 6 September
- Day: Asian AFL Championships
- Evening: Asian Championships Sportsman & Awards Night
Sunday 7 September
- Asian Champs Brunch and Live AFL Football Finals
