The Vietnam Swans’ 2011 Asian Championships banner, designed by Ross McRae, has now been unveiled. And, she’s a beauty, mate!
The 2011 Asian Championships will be the 5th Champs that the Swannies have competed in. It therefore takes the opportunity to acknowledge some of the people who are playing significant roles at our National Club.
- Hanoi Preident and Coach – C Dan Hopkins and Adrian Enright
- Hoi An and Swimming Champion – MJ (Michael Johnston)
- Saigon President and Coach – Dezrrin Limbrick and Josh Little
- Vung Tau – Tim Clements
- ANZAC Friendship Match – Dan Kindness (unfortunately will now miss the Champs)
- Players from our first Champs in 2007 who will also be at this year’s Champs – Phil Johns (National President), Damian Judd, Mic Francis, Dave Kainey, MJ (Michael Johnston)
- Skipper – Luke “Dukes” Creamer
- Young swimmers – Representing the swimming programs the Vietnam Swans support.
In the picture, the players are wearing black armbands for Ailsa Vernon’s sister, Val, who died unexpectedly recently. Val had attended this year’s ANZAC Friendship Match With Ailsa and Ron Vernon. Ron played Aussie Rules in Vung Tau during the War on the same oval that the ANZAC Friendship Match is played on.
It’s another great banner by Ross. If you need him for some graphic design work, contact the Vietnam Swans now.
Footnote: Arguably the unluckiest player not to appear on the banner? Kev Hornblower who joined the Vietnam Swans last year. He has played for Singapore, Thailand and now Vietnam in every Asian Champs since 2003!
