Eddie teh Mexican, no longer looking for a wife but still looking for No. 26

Eddie the Mexican, no longer looking for a wife but still looking for No. 26

Do you recognize this jumper from last year’s match against Singapore?

Eddie the Mexican – who was fined for being the only Mexican on the 2007 Asian Champs tour – returned briefly to HCMC a fortnight ago to marry the lovely, Ms Tram Anh. Eddie, who seems to be in an acquisitive mood at the moment, would now like to purchase the No. 26 Club jumper which he wore against Singapore last year. If you happen to know where the No. 26 jumper might be, please email vietnamswans@gmail.com.

The Bushfire Match aftermath

Last weekend, the Kinglake Footy Club played its first match since the Black Saturday fires. They spoke of the importance of playing that first match as being a symbol of resilience and regrowth. They spoke of sport being a vehicle to bring people together.

The Vietnam Swans and Bali Geckos footy clubs put on a very appropriate weekend that we should all be very proud of. It was a great effort by everyone.

The AFL sent us an email earlier in the week to say that they have forwarded the presentation we prepared, bushfire-fundraiser-and-match-summary2, to the Victorian Premier’s office.

We have just five more Bushfire Commemorative t shirts remaining. Want to buy one for just VND200K?? Email vietnamswans@gmail.com. Once we have sold them, we will put that money together with another VND2.4million and send it through to the YMDFL. This should bring the total raised to AUD4,500.

Apology

Last Friday, we emailed the presentation re the Bushfire to everyone. We thanked the sponsors who had directly contributed to the fundraising effort. Alas, we overlooked the incredible amount of time and design expertise that www.renow.com.vn and Whitemint had put into the design of our amazing posters and banners (printing was also paid for by them). Sincere apologies for a terrible oversight.

www.renow.com.vn is an online real estate search website. Find the perfect house, apartment, commercial property etc online. Whitemint is an independent marketing and creative solutions agency. Apologies to www.renow.com.vn and Whitemint and thank you again for your great support.

Anzac Day Match, Kanchanaburi

In just three weekends’ time, we will be there in Thailand at Hellfire Pass for the ANZAC Day Dawn Service followed by the traditional Gunfire Breakfast. Several hours after that, we will play Thailand in the ANZAC Day match at Kanchanaburi.

So far, 37 Vietnam Swans will make the tour including former Swans President, Dave “Flyer” Kainey.

For some, it will be a particularly emotional weekend. For all of us, it is likely to be a weekend that we will remember vividly when we’re 80 years old, sitting on the verandah in our rocking chairs,  reflecting upon our lives.

If they ever made a movie, they'd call it, "Gus"

If they ever made a movie, they'd simply call it, "Gus"

Speaking of rocking chairs, it will be the last weekend for the veteran, Captain Gus McEwin to play for the Vietnam Swans as a resident of Vietnam. Gus will move to Jakarta in the middle of May.

If you could win Brownlows just by playing matches, Gus would have won more than anyone.

He played in the Swans first ever tournament in 2003 against Hong Kong and Thailand – and has been playing ever since. It’s been a mighty effort by Gus and it is extremely fitting that we have such a big occasion, in the ANZAC Match, to farewell him.
