Less than a week after the Melbourne Cup, we have just two weeks before the Vietnam Swans play in the Indochina Cup (Phnom Penh, 22 November) against the:

  • Thailand Tigers
  • Cambodian Whatevers; and
  • Lao Elephants

We are not being disrespectful to Cambodia by referring to them as the “Whatevers”. Tomorrow they decide whether they will call themselves the Crocodiles, Khmer Roos, Angkor Whats? or Wangkors. www.thevietnamswans.com is currently running a poll and so far, the Khmer Roos and Wangkors have each attracted 40 per cent of the vote! Amazing.

More farewells and victories are coming for the Swannies

More farewells and victories are coming for the Swannies

This will be the Swans last tournament for the year. It will also be the last tournament, as residents, for some of the Swans biggest generals:

  • Scotty Stacey (leaves Vietnam in January)
  • Sam Grigg (leaves Vietnam tomorrow but intends to be back for the Cup)

Whispers are also circulating that it could be the last tournament for Charlie Coach in Hanoi and Muzza the Human Calf in Saigon.

With so many Swans to salute, it’s important that as many as possible come along to give these guys a solid send off.

In Saigon, the Swannies are hiring our own 45 seater “Swans Salute Tour” bus to make the trip to Phnom Penh. It will depart Friday 21 November at 4pm and return midday-ish on the Sunday. At approximately $40 per person (depending upon how many come), it’s becoming a fairly attractive option for the Hanoi guys to fly to Saigon first. Hotel accommodation we can get for approximately $15. Visas are picked up at the Cambodian border for $20.

At the beginning, middle and end of the season, it’s all about focus. The Indochina Cup will be no exception!
