Tim Pickert, occasional player and full time Swannie, lives in Adelaide. Last weekend, Tim returned to Vietnam to be a part of ANZAC Week which included the Dawn Service and the football.

Below, Tim tells us more.

For all footy players, representing a team at an international level and playing your sport overseas are two of the greatest opportunities a bloke could hope for.

I was fortunate enough to be in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on Australia Day, 2013 when the Vietnam Swans played the Cambodian Eagles. I had my first taste of International Australian Rules football that afternoon when I represented the Vietnam Swans.

When the opportunity came up to again play for the Swans in last weekend’s Legends Match, at an event as significant as the ANZAC Friendship Weekend in Vung Tau, I jumped at the chance.

The atmosphere, the Dawn Service, the pre and post-game functions, and the challenge of playing in different game conditions (i.e HEAT!), made the trip one of my most memorable.

The playing group and staff, their attitude, and the Swannies’ club culture are just fantastic. The competition itself is of a high grade and I hope to represent the team again in the future.

A big thanks to you guys for allowing players to participate in your league on their travels. It’s something I’ve definitely started planning my travels around!

Will spread the word.

All the best for the season ahead guys.
