The 2021 season will forever be one remembered for some of the “challenges” faced. But out of adversity comes opportunity and as we head to the end of 2021 people around the country are honking their horns again and focusing on their love for footy once more!

With training now up and running in the North and South, our domestic leagues are set to end their enforced Covid layoffs. This promises to be an exciting finish to our season and springboard us into what promises to be a massive 2022 season.

What seems like a lifetime ago we launched our Vietnam Football League, this connects the SAFL in the South and the GAAAFL in the North giving each team a sister club at the other end of the country and enabling more heated domestic competition. The Langurs and Vipers came out convincing winners on ANZAC Day undefeated with a percentage of 1260% if you don’t mind! You can read more here

SAFL Title Race Resumes

The SAFL got underway shortly after with Round 1 being a great see-sawing and incredibly high scoring game finally won by a combined Vipers and Bears squad 17.7.109 to 16.6.102. Read about that here… Unfortunately, Round 2 fell just hours short of going ahead as Saigon plunged into lockdown that paused the season for months. We’re now ready to roll again with Round 2 set to take place on November 13th. You can read the talking points that were posted pre lockdown here. With the Vipers and Bears sitting top of the table, who will take out the 2021 season across the remaining rounds?

GAAAFL To Finally Commence

The hotly anticipated and newly formed GAAAFL League, which will see a round robin of both AFL and GAA games played across the next few months is finally set to take centre stage in Hanoi, after months of covid restrictions. As previous seasons have indicated, the games will be fierce and see old rivalries resume. The two-time AFL champion Herons trying to reclaim their title from the mighty Crabs, the Buffaloes trying to regroup from a heartbreaking Grand Final loss and the Langurs, as favourites for a fourth year running, trying to shake the ‘chokers’ tag.

The introduction of GAA to this year’s calendar adds an exciting extra storyline to the Northern competition, with an opportunity for teams to fight on multiple fronts and Irish pride on the line. It all promises to be a fascinating series of match ups, with it all to play for. Who will rise in 2021?
